this could get messy (introduction)

It's strange. Again. Just when things were getting better then he had to show up and ruin everything. Maeglin sometimes known as Lomion fought the urge to spit. They would all see, though. Tuor and Turgon and all the rest who looked askance at him for being his father's son and thought the seed of madness or evil was simply lurking waiting to ( Read more... )

On the grounds, the figure has to be familiar, perhaps a memory from his childhood. The pregnant woman (she is halfway through, and so her belly, while it is not prominent, is slightly visible in her flowing robes) is just about to bend and pick some summer wild flowers for a wreath.

She hums to herself, hasn't noticed the new arrival yet - but the song is probably familiar to Maeglin, typist willing, an old lullaby he heard every night in Nan Elmoth.

The fact that she is walking in his direction can only be blamed on a mother's instincts.

Oh, she's familiar. And he knows the tune. And he knows her. And suddenly the 'what the fuck' factor is ratcheted up several octaves. He stares at her, open mouthed, and for once taken completely off guard with no cunning or plans or artifice in him.

She's dead. He saw her die. This is not possible. Tuor is screwing with his head no and that is not okay-! Will not speak to her! Just an illusion!

"Mother?"

Her head whips around, and when she sees -- her boy. In the grown elf she can still see the little beauties of her child, and her face breaks into a wild smile.

"Lòmion." Her steps are fast, though she does not run for fear of tripping.

"My son."

Oh. This. Not good.

He half steps back, a little stunned still, expression still utterly unguarded for pure and total shock. "--you're -" He hasn't even noticed the pregnancy, still a little caught up in the holy shiznozzle you're - what. what.

This is not on!

That makes her stop, and pain flashes across her features.

"I am, and yet I am here," she tells him, sadly. "Are you not glad to see me?"

Muuurgh. Part of him wants to go give her a hug, because seriously, he is a little bit of a mama's boy, and she's been all - dead. For a while. But part of him is concerned this is some kind of... "It's impossible," he says, a little faintly, "Some kind of trick...it must be."

"It is not," she tells him, firmly. She will walk to go hug him, because she has been secretly harping about having her firstborn with her, and she loves him, and she's been worried sick with no news, and and and.

He's too surprised, still, to pull away, and she's so solid that after a moment he hugs her back, still too stunned to understand. "How can this be," in a dazed voice, very much younger again. Unravelled, a little.

She clings to her son - he's so big, now, even if she's still taller for her Noldoran features. "The Valar's mercy," she murmurs, eyes watering. She kisses his hair, again and again. "Eru, how I have prayed for you, my son."

A moment of - and then he hugs her back, tightly, still confused, still bewildered beyond all reason, but there has to be some logical explanation for this - perhaps they lied to him. Perhaps she never died at all.

Yes, that makes sense. They would. They would keep her from him, wouldn't they, thinking he would - he would -

Hatred flares and he forces it back down, makes his voice light. "After so long, mother...I never thought I would see you again."

"And I the same, love, but ---" she pulls away, just enough to look at him. "Lòmion, tell me did you -- are you well?"

Did you die?

He hesitates the barest of moments, half wanting to say 'no, I was captured and Morgoth would have tortured me if I didn't do it, Idril doesn't like me and there's this Edain Tuor I hate that I kind of want to kill and I don't belong' but he doesn't. And just forces a smile and nods. "I am, and I have been - if...missing you."

"I have been missing you as well, Lomion, every day," she says tenderly, stroking his back, his hair, as if to make sure he is really there.

"But -- tell me, then, of your life." He's hiding something. She needs to know what.

The slight tense of wariness is probably only just palpable. "There is little enough to tell, mother, and less that would be of much interest," but lying to her is hard, and he can't help the slightly shifty eyes.

She sighs, looks at him, squarely. "My son, you may be a beautiful man, grown and strong, but my son, you are still." A beat, and she says, firmly, "You know I will love you, no matter what comes to pass. My son, what have you done?"

He flushes, a little hotly, and half opens his mouth, closes it. His expression closes off a little, classically sullen, I-don't-wanna-tastic.

"Nothing happened, mother. You worry needlessly." Stubbornly. He did get some things from her.
