not so much pleased (introduction)

Jun 16, 2009 14:50

There is a heap of red-armored (though only lightly) man on the grass outside the Mansion, swearing a blue streak and slowly dragging himself back to his feet. He may have misjudged, just a little, and gods his face hurts. Rubbing a hand over his face, relieved to find it all in one piece, he rises into a crouch and stares at the house with ill- ( Read more... )

Jaime is doing his new favorite thing, steadily becoming a pronounced habit: wandering around the landscape brooding. It's a skill, hey.

He's coming around the side of said house to find someone in easily recognizable armor at the door. o hai Oberyn, we were just talking about you.

Jaime looks oh so very not impressed with the :| fais and the raised eyebrow when he says, "My Lord Martell."

It requires practice, we suppose. Not something that grows up overnight. And Oberyn notices Jaime, not looking extraordinarily pleased, but not extraordinarily annoyed, either, or any more than he already did.

"Ser Lannister," he says, just a bit too mildly. "Isn't that interesting." He doesn't sound that interested at all. Studiedly bored, really. This is not the disconcerted you are looking for.

Jaime supposes Oberyn should be extraordinarily pleased that his face is in one piece and leave it at that. Small favors, you know.

"Interesting is one word for it, though not the first I'd choose." He holds out a hand, to help the viper to his feet. "Welcome to the Mansion."

Oh, he is, he is. Though not considering that so much a small favor, that face is rather valuable, you know.

He eyes the hand a moment and then takes it and uses it to stand, straightening. "Should I take that as sincere?" But his mouth quirks in a slightly wry smile. "And I suppose the next question would be obvious."

Oh, a national treasure, surely.

"Does it matter if it's sincere?" Jaime looks amused, now. Poor little Oberyn, lost in the world. "No, I don't know where we are besides it's name, and how to return is a similar mystery?"

"No," Oberyn says, easily, and then both eyebrows shoot up. "...I hadn't thought that returning was even a possibility, all things considered."

It is, too. You know the ladies think so. And possibly some of the men. Possibly quite a few of the men, really.

"Considering I, at least, am not dead," anymore, but shhhh. "it is a possibility for some, at least hypothetically."

Probably in equal amounts, keeping Oberyn's proclivities in mind. Not that Jaime's put too much thought into Oberyn's bed habits. He doesn't really want to think about it.

Yes you do, Jaime, don't deny it. You want to think a lot about Oberyn's bed habits. He knows you do.

But. The time at hand, "Ah. That solves that mystery, then," he says, slightly amused again. "That is, what you were doing dead. Which does raise the question what you are doing."

Brooding. But Jaime doesn't call it that. "Taking a walk, obviously. This place, apparently, it pulls people in from all times and places and... other worlds." Look okay he wouldn't be saying it if it wasn't true okay he knows he sounds crazy applesauce right now.

...a little? Oberyn is now fairly sure that you've inherited some kind of Targaryen crazy, Jaime, somehow, possibly from too much proximity to the Mad King or something. "Times, places, and other worlds." He lets the neutrality of his voice speak for him, there.

:| oh c'mon Oberyn. Jaime says only, "Yes." His flat stare and still tone attempting to convey the idea of-- really, is this the kind of joke I tell? Jaime Lannister's comedic sophistication ends at throwing snowballs, 'kay guys?

You have to admit, Jaime, it's pretty up there on the scale of ridiculous. Oberyn eyes him a few moments more and eventually just shrugs. "I suppose if you're not dead and I am, several things are possible," and there might be a bit of bite to that. Oberyn did not expect to be dead so soon and it did not suit his plans at all.

Well, yes, dying does get in the way of one's plans; that is one of the many reasons so many try to avoid it. But Jaime can understand the spite, and let's it slide. "If you can find more credible information than that, please, do inform me, but what I've said stands as the most apt explanations I've yet to find thus far."

A beat. "Robb Stark is also here." And Sandor Clegane, but should he really mention a Clegane right now? Err.

redviperofdorne June 17 2009, 02:27:30 UTC
Quite probably not, it would definitely not make for a very cheerful Oberyn. Stupid Cleganes. "I'll keep an eye out for those, then, as yours is stretching the definition of the word 'credible.'"

A pause, and a bit of an eyebrow, looking almost amused. "Oh? How did that go?" Never met the boy, and has no real concern with him, but he can't see any Lannister and any Stark getting along extraordinarily well.

"Yes, as I've been told before, though thank you for reminding me." >\ Stupid Martells.

At this, Jaime huffs a bit, not quite avoiding the question so much as preparing himself to mumble the answer out of the corner of his mouth like the manly man he is. "As can be guessed by one as astute as yourself, surely."

"I consider it a civic duty." His eyebrows rise still further. "My estimate, actually, seems to be rather off, judging to your continued existence. If you'll pardon my saying so."

Not apologetic at all, he is.
