Ilmarinen should be used to how things are in the Mansion by now--he hardly ever goes back to the house, hardly ever needs or even wants anything that he can't find or make for himself. But this morning, he has run out of cinnamon, and he likes that strange new spice--so he's gone back to the Mansion, back to the old plothole cabinet where he first got his jars of spices.

It's empty, of course. It's been empty for ages.

Ilmarinen, though, has never met a magical engineering problem that he hasn't wanted to solve. Therefore, he may be found on the grounds this afternoon, working at a makeshift forge that he has assembled on the grass, where there is plenty of open space. It will allow the four winds into his forge more easily, for one thing--and it will damage less should there be a massive explosion or a rogue invention, for another.

He has decided that he will make his own magical cabinet. It can't be any harder than the Sampo, can it?

Ilmarinen welcomes victims assistants or companions.

Typist: Sort of a crackplot, sort of an attempt to raise plothole-consciousness, potentially a plothole-replacement. I haven't seen anyone taking action on the plothole discussion we had earlier, so consider this an opening salvo. Ilmarinen doesn't have to succeed in his project (mods' choice), but the attempt might provide IC motivation for others to undertake their own projects.

As to the crackplot element--in the Kalevala, whenever Ilmarinen attempts to make a large and significant item, the result is always that he creates several autonomous robots/weapons/etc. that rebel and try to kill or destroy things. Anyone wandering by may feel free to encounter one of these rogue inventions and defeat it or be defeated by it.

If this plot doesn't work for modly types, let me know and I'll take it down.
