Outside the mansion, a large brown and white hawk perches on a tree branch, looking around with mad eyes, eyes that looked like a flame burned orange behind them. This wasn't where he meant to land, he's certain, but he can't sort out just where he is. Even trying to is difficult. He doesn't like some of the presences that he's sure lurk in the woods as well. He can't hear the distant roar of the Mississippi river, and somehow he knows that if he took flight he would be unable to find it. He doesn't bother trying.
