To complete the trifecta, here's a distant cousin-cum-uncle in-law who doesn't actually know him. But the sudden appearance of a figure in full Elven armour draws one's attention.

"Hello. You look new."

Elrond doesn't recognize him, but he does look familiar...a bit like...no, that can't be it. That's just odd. "I believe I am. What is this place?"

He's less pretty than Galadriel, but there's a resemblance. "I really don't know for sure." He smiles, lopsided. "The general consensus is: not what you expected."

Elrond nods, not commenting just yet on the resemblence because he knows that all of Galadriel's brothers are all dead. "Yes, it truely isn't."

[tolkien_blond]

He shrugs. "If I could make sense of it I would. It certainly doesn't seem to be the Halls of Mandos, so if you're meant to be there, I'm sorry, we're a little lost." He looks Elrond over: the mud and blood and embattled appearance. "Are you, do you think?"

He shakes his head. "No. The battle is over, but only just. That is why I must return."

Have a sympathetic headtilt. "I hope you're able to. Which battle, out of curiosity?"

[lord_halfelven]

"The battle against the forces of Sauron, on the slopes of Orodruin itself, ending the seige of Barad-dur."

[tolkien_blond]

Sounds exciting. "I must have missed that. Have you won?"

[lord_halfelven]

Oh it was. "For a time. Sauron has been defeated, but not destroyed."

[tolkien_blond]

Have a half-smile. "It's a start?"

[lord_halfelven]

"Perhaps. Now though that the chance to destroy him has been lost, it will be long before it comes again." He can't blame Isildur for wanting the ring as payment for the deaths of his father and brother, but they'd been so close.

He could blame him. It was pretty stupid. "Well, I wish you all luck returning, lord." Since he fairly clearly is one. "It sounds like they need you."

Yes, but this is Elrond. He doesn't often hold things against people. Side effect of being raised by two Kinslayers, maybe. He nods a touch grimly. "It has been a long war and we have lost many, including now King Gil-Galad and Elendil." They can't afford to lose him too, under such strange circumstances. Nor can they afford to lose the ring Vilya, which he still wears.

"Erenion dead?" Have an abruptly frowny uncle. "I'm sorry to hear that." Does everybody seriously have to die?

Yes. Yes they do. Because Tolkien is a sadistic bastard at times. Most times. He nods. "In the final battle, against Sauron himself." A pause. "Did you know him? I do not recall seeing you before."
