Does Gavin count as a "lovely" friend?

Either way, he'll be flopping down next to her with a grin. "Hey. Long time no see."

Lovely wouldn't be Cosette's first choice word, but he's some sort of friend, anyway.

"M. Gavin! How lovely to see you!"

"I take it you've been keeping busy, with the . . . parenting and sh -- stuff?"

Look, Cosette. He's even adjusting his language for you.

"Oh, yes! It's just bee wonderful!"

She gives him a very large smile.

"And you? How is M. John? And Mlle. Isobel? Is everyone well? "

"I'm doing just fine. John is probably buried under a stack of books, but that's okay as long as he makes his way home eventually. And Isobel is . . . I have no idea. I don't see much of her except when she's trying to convince me she doesn't hate me."

She laughs a little.

"Marius is much the same with his books. And I just let him do as he likes. But I'm glad to hear everyone is so well. It seems like it's been so long since we've sat here, and you've traumatized me in one way or another."

That gets a grin. "It has been a long time. Maybe I should fix that."

"I could tell you what John and I did last night," he says, with a look of pure mischief.

"I sincerely hope that you.... baked cookies and drank warm milk and read books and said your prayers and went to sleep and had lovely dreams?"

This is a very hopeful smile.

"No, actually we had a nice dinner and took the dog for a walk."

". . . and then we went home and he tied me up. What, did you think we'd changed that much?"

She promptly FROWNS at him, and covers her face with her hands.

"I'd hoped. And prayed. But I never really though so, no. But you really do enjoy volunteering all this detailed information to me, don't you?"

"Only because your reactions are so completely priceless.Besides, that's not detailed in the slightest," he says. "I avoid details for the sake of your darling innocent brain."

"Well, you can hardly blame me! However, I do thank you from the bottom of my darling innocent heart for sparing me the details."
