He approaches the mansion at a run, and is nearly there before realizing that this is not the guesthouse he was intending to approach. He stumbles to a halt, shaken, almost shaking, eyes wide with disbelief and a little horror. He glances back over his shoulder, but no Abbey presents itself. He slowly knees, pressing the palms of his hands flat against the ground, but he needs no familial bent to tell him that this isn't where he was. Not where he was supposed to be. He takes another look around before rising to his feet, taking a few deep, slow breaths and running hands through his hair in a vague attempt to put it into some sort of order before straightening his claret-colored cloak and the purple silk half-mask that covered the left side of his face. He wraps Pureblooded confidence and hauteur around himself like a cloak, masking how shakey and off-balance he still is before striding toward the door and banging on it with his fist, demanding entrance.

Mun: Magnus Valentia Cartamandua-Celestine (but he hates that name, everyone calls him Valen) from Flesh and Spirit by Carol Berg. Taken from the end of that book but before the sequel Breath and Bone.
