She looks around and though she is confused decides that getting hysterical would be illogical and so just decides to introduce herself. "Hello my name is Sally Owens, and I'm not really sure what I'm doing here. If anyone sees my aunts could you please tell them I'm here. I'll just be over here for now." She sits down stiffly on the sofa and ( Read more... )

"Are you alright, Miss Owens?" Richard, while still in a state of uncertainty himself, still cannot resist his manners.

"I'm alright, I think." She shifts uncomfortably in her seat. "Well as alright as someone can be when they really have no idea where they are or who anyone is."

"Of course, I quite understand. Most everyone arrives in just the same way, and it's terribly disturbing."

"Disturbing. That's a good way of putting it." She looks around the room for the first time and notices that there are quite a few people in it, then she looks at Richard, then back to the room, then back at Richard again. She pushes away the sudden feeling of panic that she feels and manages to calmly ask "People do leave here don't they? They get back home somehow?"

He hesitates, torn between not wanting to worry her, and not wanting to lie. "...some do. But on one is sure how to do it on purpose."

Her eyes go wide for a moment, her heart beats faster, but all that comes out of her mouth is a small "Oh."

He crouches down a bit. "Please don't be too distressed, ma'am. It will come right, you'll see."

She clears her throat a little and looks down at her feet. Her thoughts are racing about in her head. She'll never see Gilly again, her aunts won't know what's happened to her. She's stuck, here, wherever here is. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath gathering herself. "I think," she says not wanting to allow this situation control her anymore, "I think you are right. Someone will come for me." She nods with determination. "Someone will come."

"More than likely. I thought I would never see my fiancee again, when I first arrived, but now she is here as well."

"So other people come here more than people who end up here go home?"

"Erm...rather, in my experience, but there are a lot of people here, many whom I've not yet met, so perhaps it isn't the rule."

She sighs. "I don't like it here very much, however you've made it slightly more bearable thus far. So thank you."

"You've hardly arrived, Miss Owens, and no one likes being somewhere alone when they did not expect it. Would you like me to show you where the kitchen is, or help you find an empty room?"

"Of course. We can certainly find you somewhere. And my name is Richard Carstone, if you need anything after that."
