Grindelwald is bored - and a bored dark wizard is never a good thing.

He's sitting in the main room of the Mansion, idly flicking his wand. The nearby furniture transfigures into random, grotesque animals and back again before they can make so much as a yelp of surprise.

He sighs loudly, signalling his boredom. Any company would be more than welcome ( Read more... )

Owl, sitting on the mantelpiece, hoots--except that it can't be heard. Looking, you can see he's opened his beak and made a sound, but your ears have heard nothing.

A moment later, a boy hurries into the room. There are thorns in his hair, and his shirt is torn, and any wizard worth his salt can probably see that he's a ghost, and something more than a ghost; real and not-real, and hungry, hungry, and sad, as he holds out a hand for Owl, and Owl just looks back silently.

He notices the owl and the boy and looks at both curiously.

Kavi says, Owl, please, and that's all that can be heard--the suggestion of a voice in your mind, nothing actually spoken aloud.

He projects his mind back. Can you speak aloud?

He turns to look, and coughs a laugh, bitter and edgy. Oh, yes, when I've the luck.

"Luck? What about magic? Maybe I can help you there...," he raises his wand as if offering to help give him a voice.

Kavi scoffs. I have a voice. What I haven't got's the strength, sir, surely you can see? I'm not so solid I can make a solid sound.

"Ahh... I could help you with that too, maybe...," he muses.

And what will you ask back?

"Why, nothing. I have no need of anything at the moment. Except maybe some conversation and company to entertain me."

Nobody gives for nothing. So saying, Kavi glances up at Owl, who is stoutly refusing to come down to him--poor Kavi, anybody might think, being left without what for all purposes passes for his familiar.

"What would you want for yourself? A solid body, perhaps?"

Bitterly, Pyetr Illitch to have left well enough alone? The God knows! Come on down, Owl, for the God's love, damn it all to hell!, which isn't a wise thing for Kavi to say, being as far too often the things Kavi says have a tendancy to come true, but he's a bit past thinking of that now, and anyway he was never much good with consequences--which is far and away the greatest reason he's what he is now, and forsaken.

Pyetr Ilitch killed me, that's how.
