Grindelwald is bored - and a bored dark wizard is never a good thing.

He's sitting in the main room of the Mansion, idly flicking his wand. The nearby furniture transfigures into random, grotesque animals and back again before they can make so much as a yelp of surprise.

He sighs loudly, signalling his boredom. Any company would be more than welcome ( Read more... )

Dr. Hoenikker has never seen anything like this, and as such his attention has drifted to a single item. After ten minutes of staring, Felix looks towards Grindelwald and says loudly and distantly, "This end-table is doing the damnedest thing."

"Is it?" He asks, feigning innocence and lowering his wand. There's an amused sparkle in his eyes.

"A moment ago, it was definitely a turtle, but now it's got a lamp on it." He pauses and looks puzzled in no particular direction. "How could it do that?"

"It must be a magic table."

Felix scoffs and manages to actually focus on Grindelwald. "There is no such thing as magic, young man. Magic is what primitive peoples would call the atom bomb. Magic is what children call string games. No, this table must be, er, part turtle." He turns back to the end table and watches it, eyes hawkish in their focus.

Grinning, this time Gellert turns the table into a vulture which utters a harsh cry then starts flapping its way up toward the ceiling.

Felix watches it rise, bemused but not shocked, and fully interested. "That is a marvel of either evolution or technology," he says in a voice that suggests it would be filled with awe and wonder if the voice were capable of being filled with such, before turning back to Grindelwald. "You wouldn't happen to know anything about it, young man? Or have a pen?"

"I may know something about it," he replies casually.

Felix eyes him as warily as a man who doesn't know the meaning of the word "deception" can. "Do you have a textbook on it, perhaps?"

He laughs. "I left them back at school when they kicked me out."

Felix stares rather distractedly in the general direction of Grindelwald's left ear. "So someone has already studied them? Hm." He shrugs and watches it again. "I can study it too, though."

"Nothing's stopping you from trying."

Felix nods noncommittally at this and begins to pat his pockets with a sort of slow wildness. After a moment he turns back to Grindelwald.

"Do you have a pen and paper?"

"I can get some," he replies, waving his wand and some paper and writing materials come sailing into the room toward Felix.

Felix nods, as if this were to be expected. "I see. Is this something you learned by observation?"

"No, it's a natural gift."
