Snow! (open)

Dec 16, 2007 13:19

Richard has never had anything like the Mansion's park during the winter. The streets of London only offer, on the whole, limited opportunities for playing in the snow. And he has now held out as long as dignity will let him. He is out in the grounds, dressed warmly, and is very earnestly building a snow fort. Mostly though trail and error. ( Read more... )

Edgar walks even in rough weather, you'll find--and so he is clad in a coat and boots today, and walking the grounds (not too far out; one can never tell when the weather will get worse, and it would be too much a familiar nightmare to be lost in the woods in the cold). He regards the snow fort--and its architect--with some humor. "Mr. Carstone?"

He looks up, flushed and smiling. "Mr Huntly! It has been some time. How are you, sir?"

"Very well! And you, sir?" He has not built a snow fort of his own for some twelve or thirteen years, but he kneels to help.

"Tolerably well. Things are peaceful, just now. And there is so much snow! I don't think I have ever seen so much at once before."

Well, the construction of a snow fort can only mean one thing. And it may not be long before a snowball or two comes sailing in his direction.

He ducks behind his wall and quickly constructs some return projectiles of his own.

"Well met, sir!" Ganymede calls from behind a tree a few yards away.

"And you," he calls back, letting a snowball fly.

Karla is outside, as she usually is during the winter, and Richard may suddenly find a snowball by his feet and Karla waving at him from a tree with a grin. "Nice construction there!" She yells.

He tilts his head up at her, with a half smile. "I haven't found the time to get around to a roof, as yet. I'm terribly vulnerable to attacks from above."

She grins at him. "I'll try not to throw too many at you until you have a defensible roof." She tilts her head critically. "It looks good so far, though."

"Thank you! It's my first ever attempt, so I'm rather making it up as I go."

One thing people should learn when James Potter the younger is in residence is that a mischievous young wizard and snow is not a good combination. Especially when said wizard is the descendant of one of the Marauders. So James is stationed in a tree, and muttering a quiet incantation under his breath. After a moment or two, there should be a snow lioncub pawing at Richard's trouser leg, and a very amused young Gryffindor in a tree.

This does startle Richard, as his last direct encounter with a wizard was... distinctly less than pleasant. The pawing catches his attention, and he jumps back a bit. "Oh dear. Where did you come from?"

Well, James isn't nearly as unpleasant, to be sure. He scrambles out of the tree and runs over, though, giving the lioncub a gentle pat on the head. "From me, actually." It's not quite a grin and not quite a smirk on his face -- purely a Potter sort of expression. "Hallo."

"Hello. He's...rather cute," he tries for, with a shaky sort of smile, though his tone is polite, almost friendly.

Sorry, James. Being murdered by a wizard makes one wary. But Richard is trying.

Well. There is only one reason that someone would build a snowfort. Because they were expecting attack. And let it never be said that Mr. Tom Jones never gave people exactly what they wanted. So, at the first possible moment (not seeing who the builder was) Tom let fly the largest snowball he could throw. And he had very good aim.

Tom's aim and the size of his snowball combine to knock Richard into a large, soft pile of snow. Laughing, he gets to his feet, brushing himself up before he can look up. "Good show. Best aim all day."

Tom was laughing from the moment he let the snow fly, but when he heard his victim's voice he stopped suddenly. He wondered briefly how long it would take him to run away in the snow before dismissing the idea. No more hiding. He was going to face up to his fears this time.

He looks up and abruptly stops laughing. "...Tom. I was just... you're looking well."
