Having the forest change on one is a normal occurrence in the Enchanted forest, which is why Daystar didn't think anything of it when the route he intended to take turned into something different.
It's only when the feeling of familiarity disappears that he realises something is wrong. He tries to turn back, but there's no hope for it, he's lost. Going more carefully now, the black haired youth keeps exploring until he comes to a clearing where he sits down to try and think of a way back home.
