A bit of magic

Oct 21, 2007 11:04

John Childermass is sitting at a table, off to the side of the main room. He would be very easy not to notice at all, despite his strange appearance, as if shadows clung to him a bit. He is currently reading his Marseilles cards, again and again. Whether he is asking different questions or is simply dissatisfied with answers to the same question ( Read more... )

Ada is passing on her way upstairs, but the sudden vision stops her dead. For to hear Mr Skimpole foretell her and Richard's future was one thing, but she sees it now before her, and that is another matter entirely. She stands stock still, one hand at her heart, the other, without thinking, at her middle. She does not cry yet.

"Miss Clare?" Molly, just returning from her venture with Ganymede, is sopping wet, and comes to Ada's side. She is stopped by a short flash of her own, but it is nothing so dire (a vision of the man that, back home, she will marry), and she ignores it to come to Ada's side.

She starts. "Miss-- Miss Seagrim. I-- I just saw--"

Jaenelle is looking for Saetan when she passes through the room. Her eyes go very blank for a moment, and then a sickly sheen settles on her face and she clutches her stomach with a soft cry as she wavers, seeming on the point of vomiting.

There is no way Saetan can ignore that distress. He rushes to find her, and when he enters the room, he's hit with his own memory of what happened when his third son was brutally murdered. In some ways, from what others had told him he'd been vaguely aware of the events of that night, but not on a level that he had to face it. Luckily, it was so very long ago that he's able to put that grief and rage aside long enough to try to save and comfort the child before him. Jaenelle.

Jaenelle whirls around and stares at him, wide eyed, almost without recognition, and tries to back away. "No, no, no," she murmurs, her eyes terrified.

Saetan puts a Black sight and sound shield around the pair of them to give then privacy, and kneels. "Witch-child..." His voice is shaking a bit from his own memories. "It's.. Saetan. I won't hurt you."

Aaron was prowling through the room when he stops abruptly, a sudden certainty of the future settling in his mind. In less than a second, the air in the room drops to near zero temperatures and his eyes are hard and cold as ice, his fists clenched and teeth bared in an automatic snarl. He's just 'remembered' the attack on Kalush and Arianna, and that does not make for a very happy Warlord Prince. In fact, he's now riding on the verge of the killing edge.

Hagbard has been wandering the Mansion, exploring its infinite corners eagerly, not wishing in the least that he could make sense of it. As he passes through, he is assaulted with a vision of himself, riding his golden submarine, through a surreal, substanceless land between universes that is pretending to be an allegory for something. He's rescuing an old friend, and they're all leaving...

"I am going to get a space ship!" he shouts when the vision is gone.

"How exciting for you," Childermass says without looking up.

"Hey, I don't see you turning your giant golden submarine into a trans-dimensional inter-stellar.... Ship." Hagbard pauses, and looks troubled.

"Trans-dimensional? And what were all those... people... doing?"

Typist took "not what they're looking for" quite liberally. And forgot to finish up the bit. And may or may not be lying to cover up for mistakes >.>

Linden just--looks quietly horrified, in a way not quite describable. His tired, kind face twists, and the grey in his hair is suddenly very apparent, and the circles beneath his eyes.

She's coming back downstairs from escorting Ada up, and sees him. "Mr. Kohlrabi?" She is, we should note, still soaking wet.

"Child--" he says, in vulnerable surprise.

She comes to him and, silently, offers him a damp hug.
