To any and all "Catholics" and their priests,

Could someone please explain to me the supposed need and practice of burning witches?

*though not quite a Catholic, Alyosha was and is still a man who was almost a monk, and the notice cannot but make him frown -- it strikes him as wrong, and wrongly intentioned, but his good nature cannot allow him to dismiss anything out of hand (even, it appears, as the cost of missing the joke)*

Because the man doesn't approach him, Saetan merely watches from behind his book. The room seems just a hair colder.

*ah, but Alyosha is Russian -- it is not the cold that catches his attention, but something else* Hello. *looking him in the eye, with a warm, genuine smile* Are you the one that wrote this?

Saetan sets the book down. "I am. Do you have an answer for me?" His voice is deceptively calm and soft. His eyes are focused on Alyosha, but still seem slightly glazed.

I was wondering if you'd found one. *apologetic, but for kindness's sake rather than from shame's* Forgive me, but the burning of witches never seemed very Christian to me ... I know such things have happened, and should be repented sorely, but I couldn't help but wonder why you asked your question of Catholics in particular.

"I was told it was a Catholic custom," he answers honestly. The apologetic tone greatly mollifies him, though Saetan doesn't smile. The subject is still far too apalling.

In some parts of the world, it is. It's a custom wherever people are afraid ... and wherever people are ignorant, too. I mean to say they fear everything they don't know, but I don't think they understand God's will, either, or they wouldn't punish in His name, but try to forgive. *and because he has danced with fairies and kissed goddesses here, this is not such an unusual question* Are you a witch?

"I'm not a witch. Where I'm from witches are female only. I do have Craft. I'm a Warlord Prince." Aloysha's manner is disarming, and it easier to speak to someone who isn't trying to provoke him deliberately.

Ah. I'm sorry -- this must be very shocking for you. Not only being away from home, but learning what terrible things people in other places can do. *gently* But we do good things, too.
