Today is the first birthday of Jareth and Amadeo's daughter, Aisling, and the occasion, though obviously a happy one, has her daddy in a somewhat reflective mood.

He's come to the mansion in particular to seek out his mother, but any and all conversation is welcome.

Armand's (or should he say Amadeo's) appearance makes Lestat smile, and he beckons with one hand in a way that appears suggestive, despite the obvious jest. Turning in his chair, he lifts up his legs and crosses his feet over one armrest. There's an empty chair next to him and he's sure to pat the top of it so that Amadeo knows he's welcome to come sit -- as if the invitation was not already obvious. There's a book on his lap that's turned upside-down, but the cover is readable as being King Lear, a play that he has yet to finish. He blames David.

Lestat smirks, but his tone is good-natured. "Making a social call?"

"I was looking for someone particular, but I suppose you will have to do in the meantime." His tone is lightly teasing and he smiles as he sits.

"You always knew how to flatter me." Lestat steeples his hands and sits back in the chair, pressing the sides of his fingers against his mouth. "Why should I have to settle for being a second choice, hm?"

But he's hardly serious. The fact of the matter is that Lestat is rather bored, and it isn't easy to hide. He has David to bother, of course, but David has little patience for him.

"It is a talent of mine," Amadeo responds agreeably, hooking a leg over the arm of his own chair. "And you will settle for it because you are a loquacious devil."

The description makes Lestat smirk again, and he points one finger at Amadeo in what would look like an accusing way if he was at all being serious. "You are one to talk about devils." He leans back in the chair and continues to study Amadeo in a fond way, but then his expression becomes more serious. "I thought that you were gone, you know. Perhaps your presence would shock me more if there weren't so many others." He means gone from the sun. That is the last of Amadeo that he remembers.

And it is the last Amadeo remembers before all this. He nods, expression smoothing into solemnity. "I expected to be gone. Finding myself here was nothing more than extraordinary luck. Though I did not think so at first."

The discussion affects him, but Lestat does not bother to hide that. He studies Amadeo with a quiet, grave expression, which appears strange on him but is nonetheless genuine. "I would think so," he says simply, almost chidingly at the fact that Amadeo did not always agree.

"Of course you would. You are an eternal optimist... except when you are not, my contradictory friend."

"On the subject of contradictions," begins Lestat, his tone light despite the turn that the conversation had taken. "It is because of your presence, among select others, that I remain here in spite of rather...unpleasant affairs."

"Unpleasant affairs? I cannot say I am surprised." He frowns, eyes distant for a moment. "But enough to drive the Brat Prince away?"

"Not yet," answers Lestat with obvious smugness. He prides himself on the fact of not being chased away despite various attempts on his sanity. He notices Amadeo's distance, but smirks in an effort to change the subject. "I would not go. There is too much to make me stay. The promise of excitement, although..." The light in his own eyes dims slightly, but his smile remains. "I could have used a little break." The abrupt appearance into the mansion came a little too soon.
