He bears a striking resemblance to Anthony Quinn, though he's much hairier.  Nearly every inch of his olive skin is thick with black hair-it's clearly human, but there is a certain gorilla-like air.  His eyebrows are especially thick.  For all this, he only has short hair atop his head, and only faint stubble for a beard, which exemplifies his .  ( Read more... )

"No one seems quite certain, sir," Arabella replies, very polite. Her manners are polished enough, and she's been in this place long enough, that she hardly gives him more than a second glance.

Hagbard laughs-it is a loud laugh that can be described by no word but Jovial. "Just my kind of place then!"

Arabella cannot help but smile. "Is it indeed, sir?"

Hagbard nods at Arabella, considering her. "I don't suppose you were at the Ingolstadt Music Festival a few years back?" He pauses for only the briefest moment. "No, of course, a lady of your standing wouldn't have been. Probably couldn't have been! Of course, anyone who says they remember it wasn't there, if you see what I mean. Other than myself, that is." He chuckles. "My point, my dear woman, is that no one has ever known what happened there. What was your name?"

"Arabella Strange," she replies, looking equal parts amused and confused. "And you, sir?"

He extends an almost furry hand to her. "Hagbard Celine, adventurer and Free Man."

She takes it delicately. "A pleasure, Mr Celine."

"The pleasure is mine, Ms. Strange," he says before leaning down to kiss her hand quickly. His grip on her hand does not linger.

The typist apologizes for the slowness of this reply-he had a lot of trouble figuring out how Hagbard would treat the situation...

"Where have you come from, sir?"

Typist: Not at all! Such is my constant dilemma. XD

"The bridge of the undersea ship I technically command. I don't exactly belong to any nations. And you, madame?"

"Nothing so interesting, I fear. I am English, but I was in Italy before I came here."

"My father was Italian! My mother was Norwegian, but Blond Hair and Blue Eyes are recessive." He pauses. "I've also got Irish and Viking ancestors. I'm a regular mutt!" He guffaws.

Arabella laughs as well. What else can one do? "I am afraid I saw very little of Italy. Have you ever been there?"

Hagbard nods. "The only places on the Earth that I've never been to are the ones I have no reason, desire, or need to be in, and there aren't many of those. It's as good as any other nation, and that's all I really have to say to it."

"I see! Then perhaps it would be better to ask where you haven't been."

Hagbard has to think for a very short but significant while on this one. When he finally speaks, it is to say, "I cannot recall ever having been to Mongolia."
