DF Penpals Final Reminder and Informational Post

Apr 22, 2005 15:11

This will be the final message regarding the DF Penpals Program, or at least this first round of it (but I’ll get to that in a moment). If you’re an oldbie who has interest but has been putting off sending in your application, get on the ball and mail it in. If you are new to DF and have no idea what I’m talking about, let me explain.

About a week ago now the idea came up of writing letters to one another as our characters. I took on the task of organizing this little venture. Sometime on Sunday (EST or GMT-5), I will be sending out assignments to let each character know who they will be writing to. If this sounds interesting, feel free to take a look here for details on how to join. Please send your application to the e-mail address provided there, and at the bottom of the post here, by Saturday evening if your character wishes to be included in the assignments.

That said, here is some additional information for those who have or are going to apply. Please read, as the following is very important.

A General Explanation
I thought that, for the sake of the curious, I would explain to you how I was going to do the assignments.

Each participating character will receive one partner with whom to correspond. First I will go through and try to pair people up according to interests, if that is what they stated they would prefer. Next I will go through and randomly pair the rest. In the case of an uneven number of participants, I will use one of my own characters to fill in.

On Sunday I will send out e-mails to everyone with the addresses of the characters that their own will be writing with. I will also make a post here with a list of partners, again to cater to the curious, just so everyone can see exactly who’s taking part and who gets to converse with whom.

Addressing
There was a question earlier about how we would deal with the addressing situation, so here’s what I need in order to make sure that everyone gets their letters with as few problems as possible. Please leave a comment here letting me know whether things addressed to your characters can be addressed to them in care of you or whether it must be addressed to you and you alone. Please know that:

- If you have NOT either left a comment here or sent me an e-mail with other instructions, the default form of addressing letters will be something like Rosenstern, c/o Foil B. Chat.

- If you HAVE left a comment or e-mailed me with other instructions, your partner will be informed of them when the assignments are made.

Other Things
Part 1 - I still need addresses for:
Ginny Weasley
Rosencrantz
I believe that’s it. If you aren’t completely sure whether I have your address or not, please send it again.

Part 2 - There was an unanswered question, which I would like to address to the mods.
It was asked here whether a sibling could join in on the DF Penpals Program without actually being part of DF. Apparently she just loves writing letters and would be interested in writing one from a literary character but isn’t really interested in journal keeping and the like. The question, obviously, is whether or not it would be all right for her to join in on this. I personally have no problem with it but I’m just the postmaster here. If the mods don’t mind, though, I will add her to the list a Hareton Earnshaw from Wuthering Heights.

Part 3 - Another round?
As I mentioned before, I am thinking about doing second round, most likely at the end of the summer. Should the program prove relatively successful, meaning everyone has as much fun as I hope they will, I’ll go through with it so that anyone new and anyone who opted out this time due to home address versus dorm address issues will have a chance to join in.

And…I believe that’s all.

Any questions or applications can be sent to inwhiteleather@gmail.com.
