Tom Jones has a tendency to blow things out of proportion, wallow in grief, and throw himself blindly into unsafe situations when he feels upset. Losing his lover certainly counts as something to be distraught over and Tom has earned every right to something incredibly stupid. Florence has in hand a copy of Joyce's Ulysses, and is poking around the mansion looking for a distraction from the fact that she can't actually make heads or tails of it. Passing down the hall, she hears the sound of familiar music (something of a rarity around here) on a phonograph and goes to investigate.

"Is that 'Spring'?"

Distracted = preoccupied with something = possibly interesting. "Are you looking for something in particular?" she asks, frowning at the records.
