An idle Took

Pippin is bored. His stay at the mansion has, thus far, been rather uneventful if one forgets the time spent as a child. Everything that he wants is within easy reach; cousins, food, drink, and a good pipe. Most of the horrors of the war, even the encounter with Sauron, have almost completely faded away. It isn't as though there is much here to ( Read more... )

It's a once-Warlord Prince, bouncing through looking for Gabrielle. Unfortunately, the water that is promptly dumped onto his head would have amused a ten-year-old Eyrien boy, but it definitely doesn't amuse the suddenly full grown Eyrien Warlord Prince, who is now soaking wet, half-dressed, and holding a very nasty looking war blade.

"DAMMIT, WILL SOMEONE EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO ME?" he roars.

Forgive the pissy, please.

Still damp from his own encounter with one of those buckets, Armand can't help giggling though he tries to hide it behind one of his hands. "You got wet." Ater a moment while he considers the merits of fleeing back upstairs, he says, "Would you like to come to a party?"

Lucivar glances at him and scowls. "You," he mutters, a little darkly. And after a pause. "What sort of party?"

"I didn't get you wet." He carefully doesn't glance a the laughing hobbit on the far side of the room. "The kind where you meet people, eat lots of food and wear out someone's floor learning new, silly dances. But hardly formal in any other sense."

He blinks a little. "I assumed not. At least you're not Gabrielle. I've had enough embarrassing moments witnessed by her." He frowns. "It sounds like it could be fun. Who else is going?"

"Well, the hobbits are the ones I promised the party for, so them. And some elves if I can entice them to come. However many of you can be fit into a room without making it explode. Christopher. Draco. And some of the new people who need to meet others."

He's mostly still trying to think it through. "I'm thinking ice cream and swing dancing. Summer's nearly gone, a last fling with ice cream should go over well."

"Ice cream? And what're hobbits?"

"Ice cream is frozen sweetened milk. I'd never had it before I came here, but it's wonderful. And hobbits are very small people. There's a family of them here."

It sounds good, but Lucivar doesn't say that. "Is Marian going?"

"Well, I haven't asked her yet. I haven't done invitations, just a bit of discussion with young M. Took."

He thinks about it for a moment. "I'll ask her about it. Maybe, though." He gives Armand another, rather piercing, look. "Have you talked to Jaenelle lately?" he asks, very casually.

"She might like it. The baby too." He very obviously hesitates before answering the question. "I did. The other day."

He nods, slowly, his smile a bit wry. "I'm not allowed to ask questions, apparently, but having been lectured several times in the past few days by more than a few people, I'm just a bit curious about a landen who is suddenly at the center of the hypothetical court's attention."

Armand nearly winces. "I am terribly sorry. You see, ladies sometimes don't want other people talking about them, even her friends. But I'm at a terrible disadvantage with Lady Karla's friends, one she perhaps doesn't realize. So... I enlisted help. Nobody likes living on center stage."

Lucivar's laugh is more of just a little rumble. "It's not you doing the lecturing," he mutters, under his breath. "And I wasn't even doing anything to get Khary yelling at me." He scowls a little, then looks back at Armand. "I guess I can see how that might be helpful in your current situation."

"Do you remember before, Prince Yaslana? You were upset over something that was private between Karla and me. And I don't seem to have the credibility to be believed by everyone."

His drop back into formality is exactly as defensive as it sounds. He doesn't want to talk about this anymore, because he doesn't think there's any way he's going to be able to come out of a discussion with anything but Lucivar being angry with him.
