Ilmarinen is busy picking up a prose RP style working on his bow, and today he is searching for flax to work with sinew into a bowstring. He knows that the mansion will have it, and so he emerges from the wood with a purposeful walk. If the babi wants to encounter him, this is probably the time to do it.

babi is not so upset now, babi has had food and drink and found his boys, even, and now babi is exploring the woods, because it pays to know what the woods are like, even if he plans to keep to his boys--pays to know what they might face, his young wizard and his ordinary man.

And Ilmarinen just stares at Babi for a moment, because he has never, ever seen any man or beast shaped like that. "Are you one of Lempo's goblins?" he ventures, not sure if he should be armed worried.

to which question babi must bristle, making himself bigger than he is, because he is to be trusted, he is a good conscientious babi who should be offered love--and because ilmarinen smells of magic, but not leshy magic, not domovoi, not magic babi recognises.

But that doesn't mean anything to Ilmarinen; he takes a cautious step closer. Babi is not quite a tonttu, not quite a maan haltija; they are said to wear clothes, and look like men, and Babi is not really man-looking--he may yet be part of some wild väki, though, and Ilmarinen is wary of doing offense to the väki by confusing them somehow with Hiisi's ghouls. "Speak, if you can speak, and tell me what your name and where your dwelling," he offers, hands out to show that he is unarmed.

but babi cannot speak, although he chitters his disturbance and his two yellow eyes slit with mistrust as he tries to understand what kind of magic this is, whether it is good or bad.

The creature cannot speak; Ilmarinen begins to edge away, back toward the mansion, a little disconcerted by the intelligence in its eyes.

suddenly the magic makes sense, like a stone fitting into its place on a wall, and babi knows that it is magic like leshys and happy banniks, not vodnaniye. babi settles his fur down and turns small and cat-sized, an unconcerned babi, an understanding babi.

The reaction is unexpected; Ilmarinen remembers small creatures fluffing themselves up fierce to scare off predators, and he no longer finds Babi threatening. He gives a little smile, and continues on his way.

Typist: Internet is still not working; however, I've been neglecting tags too long, so I'm catching up at the library.

and babi, polite enough when he feels the need, does not disturb ilmarinen further, but rather sets off to explore the rest of the forest.

oh! Thank you. ^__^
