The Maying Queen

If one looks into the gardens this time of day, one may see a woman there. She's only just a woman, come twenty years, and has a loveliness that is granted her by her youth: when she becomes older, she will no longer be so fair to look at. Someday she may not be fair at all

"Your Majesty!" He offers at once a deep, eager bow.

Why is this spot so popular? She starts to blush, and then quickly smiles instead, and offers him her hand. "Sir Gareth."

[sirbeaumains]

Because wherever you want him not to be, Gareth will be, since he fails utterly at taking hints! The hand he does take, though, and bows over it.

[queenofthemay]

"How do you, sir, to-day?"

[sirbeaumains]

"Very well! How does my lady Queen?"

[queenofthemay]

"I am well. I am glad to be in this fair garden."

[sirbeaumains]

"I didn't know that you were here, your majesty. I'm glad that you are."

[queenofthemay]

"Here, sir?" She looks a bit askance.

[sirbeaumains]

"--I don't know where it is, exactly, but..."

[queenofthemay]

"Is it not the garden by my lord King's castle?"

[sirbeaumains]

"Er, no."

[queenofthemay]

Her pretty face creases with a frown. "Has enchantment come upon us?"

[sirbeaumains]

"I don't know, your majesty," he says, sounding very apologetic. "It's-- I mean, I think the place is magic, but I don't know how you got here. Most everyone is here, though, it seems like."

[queenofthemay]

"I do not understand," she says, doing her best not to do something as unQueenly as wibble.

[sirbeaumains]

"I-- I don't either," he says, then adds quickly, "But I swear it's true."

[queenofthemay]

"I trust your word, Sir Gareth."
