What has he got in his pocket? (An introduction)

A hobbit has appeared quite literally out of thin air in the main room of the mansion. Bilbo hadn't meant to arrive here. He was taking a leisurely walk, with his ring in his pocket and Sting on his belt for old time's sake, when he had seen Lobelia coming down the path. With his usual good timing he put on his ring and dove under a hedgerow.

Frodo hasn't seen Bilbo looking that young in... well, ever. Because he hadn't been born yet.

He blinks. "Uncle Bilbo?"

(And this Bilbo is even younger than Frodo!) Bilbo pauses for a moment because Frodo looks vaguely familiar. "Do I know you?"

[hobbitwitharing]

That has to be extremely weird. "I'm... Frodo. Your nephew."

[ringwinner]

Bilbo goes through his numerous relations. "I can't say that I remember you."

[hobbitwitharing]

"You look..." He frowns. "How long ago did you go on your quest?"

[ringwinner]

"To help the Dwarves? I just returned a few months ago."

[hobbitwitharing]

"But... That was at least eighty years ago."

[ringwinner]

"...Are you feeling quite alright?"

[hobbitwitharing]

"I'm fine. And it's true. I've heard that people show up here from all different times, but..."

[ringwinner]

A pause but Bilbo's smarter than most. "You're from the future?"

[hobbitwitharing]

"Well, from my point of view, you're from the past."

[ringwinner]

"Extraordinary! And who are your parents?"

[hobbitwitharing]

"Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck. They died, though. Boating accident. I lived with my mother's family for a while, and you eventually adopted me."

[ringwinner]

"This is odd!" He pauses, not quite sure what one should do when one meets one's future adopted nephew.

"It is. ... How are you?"

[ringwinner]

"Good. A bit befuddled."
