Someone has been poked up here by his older brother, and is standing at the door frowning and waiting to be asked in rather than taking the initiative.

"Hi!" Ari says, and waves, "You're ser Gawain's brother, right?"

"Pleased to meet you," Ari says, and steps forward to offer a handshake, "I'm Ari Emory."

He takes it a little gingerly. "--My honour, Lady."

Ari smiles at him. "Your brother said you've been having trouble sleeping?"

"Yes. I have--dreams."

"Nasty, huh?" Ari says, and her voice is ruefully sympathetic. "There are a couple of things to try with that."

"I don't like magic," quickly, a little suspiciously.

Ari raises her hands and laughs a short, startled laugh. "I'm a psychologist!" she says, "No magic. I wouldn't know how."

"A psychologist? Gawain said a doctor."

"It's a particular kind of doctor," Ari explains, "I'm not the person to go to if you have a nasty chest cold, but if you're having trouble sleeping, I can help with that."

She grins, suddenly wicked and mischievous. "And since I'm not seeing any signs of a cold..."

He grimaces slightly. "What should I do, then?"

"If you don't object to drugs, I can give you medicine that should help you sleep. It won't stop the dreams, probably, but it might be helpful anyway - a lot of people report not remembering dreams when using it. However, you'll want to be very careful with it. It's not physically addictive, but most sleep medications are very easy to become dependent on."

She tucks a piece of hair behind her ear. "I can teach you a few exercises to control a dream state, but you should know that learning to control dreams is frequently slow and many people never gain the knack."

"And I can address the root causes of the dream with you, talk about it, see if you can work the issues out. If you're uncomfortable doing that with me I have a few colleagues here who'd be willing to help."

"Clar'd do things to make me sleep, too."

He seems to be considering, uncertainly, his eyes flickering to her. "I know what's making me dream. It's Mother."

Ari watches him steadily, her hands open at her sides. "Oh? What about your mother?"
