He doesn't so much arrive as appear--and he doesn't so much appear as seem to have always been there, in the main hall. The sound of a mournful band playing on queer instruments lingers around him, and in the periphery of the observer's vision, fairy dancers seem to sweep through the room. The gentleman himself is clad for a dance; he has a pale and narrow face, keen eyes, and hair like thistle-down, and he looks around himself with mingled excitement and impatience.

"This is hardly a splendid ballroom for our celebrations. Really, it is just too distasteful!" And as quickly as thought, the ceiling becomes high, and chandeliers sprout from its vast vaults; the walls become paneled with mirrors and gold-edged walls as the furniture vanishes over the newly-marble floor. The gentleman surveys his handiwork with a grin. "I will naturally need dancers, as well, to see how magnificently I've improved the place!"

Anyone who enters the room, therefore, will find himself or herself clad in a fairy ballgown or suit--lushly embroidered with sequins and sorrow and mouths and melody--and compelled to dance from the afternoon into the small hours of the morning.

Typist: Please welcome the gentleman with the thistle-down hair, a capricious king of Faerie from Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Enjoy!
