A young woman enters, looking around mildly curiously. She has one hand on her stomach and glances down at it, a bit perplexed, and then pauses. It's clear she has seen better days -- her clothing was once fashionable and fine, but now it's quite mended and a little dirty. She speaks, finally, looking confused

Elphaba's passing by, sees her, and doubletakes. She freezes, shocked and silent.

Melena looks over and blinks, a little wide-eyed. "...Elphaba?"

"...Mother?"

[nesthardingrose]

"Well, who else would it be?" Melena's apparently a bit snippy when she's surprised.

[_greenified_]

"You're not supposed to be here!" Because since when does Elphaba actually think before talking?

[nesthardingrose]

"And you're supposed to be eight!" Melena might be flailing a bit, but she's certainly not showing it. "You're -- you're married?"

[_greenified_]

She immediately turns defensive. "I haven't been eight in almost fourty-five years." Even though she looks about twenty-four. "And yes, I am. What's wrong with that?"

Melena turns defensive (and snappish) right back. "Forgive me," drily. "The last I knew you were a child, and I was having another."

[_greenified_]

"I'm obviously not a child anymore. I'm as old as you are. Older, technically."

Typist: ... stupid LJ. Sorry.

[nesthardingrose]

"You certainly don't look it." She frowns, but it's tempered by a bit of a wistful smile. "Is your father here? Or ..or Turtle Heart?"

[_greenified_]

She scowls a little. "No. Turtle Heart died not long after you did, and father died several years ago."

[nesthardingrose]

Her eyes widen a bit at that. "..How?" Though she'd never admit it, hearing that Frex is dead does hurt.

[_greenified_]

She sighs. One of her least favorite things to do is relive the past... or even remember it. "Turtle Heart was killed by a mob. Father... he was old. It was his time." There's still a lot of hurt there.

[nesthardingrose]

"...Oh," she replies softly. "And how is Nessarose? And ..the baby?" Because when you don't know what to say, you ask about the family.

[_greenified_]

"Nessa's very well." She smiles a little at the mention of her beloved sister. "She stays with us often. As for Shell..." She shrugs a little. "I haven't seen him since he was still a child."

[nesthardingrose]

"I'm glad to hear that." Melena smiles in return -- she made it quite obvious that Nessa was her favourite when she was alive, anyway. "I -- well, I don't know what else to say."
