Asking the community about crime and punishment

On the bulletin board is tacked a sign: In order to assess the opinions of the members of this community about how to handle crime and punishment in this community, I have put together a survey. Please complete it and let your opinions be known. There is an arrow pointing to a table just beside the board

Paul strolls over, picks one up. "Interesting. And who are you proposing to institute as the central authority? Yourself and your friends, I suppose. That's how revolutionaries always are. It starts off so philanthropic, protecting people from criminals, but soon you'll be the criminals, picking off people because you don't like them or simply because they object to your tyranny." He smirks, sarcastic. "And here I'd become rather fond of the exquisite, almost utopic anarcy of this place." Bending over the table, he signs his name with a flourish and drops it into the box. "Count me in on the regime. Sounds fun."

"We haven't actually attempted an answer to that question yet, sir. This is just gathering information on what people want."

"Pity. Well. When you do." Paul smirks, looking him over. "You look the type, after all."

"The type for what?" Gideon asks.

[oilwithvinegar]

"A lackey. Find the power and suck up to it." He smirks, pointing. "It looks like you got a smudge of dirt on your nose there."

"I used to work in law enforcement. I know the issues here."

"Ah!" Paul's smirk only widened. "Well, then I need say no more. My point is proved."

"Who are you then?"

"Peasants." Paul sighed. "Don't you know it's polite to at least offer your own name before so rudely demanding those of others?"

"I'm Gideon Prewett. I thought I said it on the sign." He looks over and reads it, realizing then he hadn't after all. "My apologies. And I've been up all night preparing this thing."

"Get some sleep, boy," Paul advises. "You're wasting your time here."

"My boss asked me to do this, so for the moment, it's part of my job." He shrugs. "I'll sleep later."
