His long legs that somewhat resembled sticks were what lead him into the main room of the mansion. With a watchful eye he looked around, letting his beak-like nose guide him.
"What is this place?," he said with an upturned nose. "Well, just as long as those pesky children aren't anywhere near here."
He brushes off his old, dusty vest and made his way ( Read more... )

Still carrying his baby son and an armload of assorted other things, Armand spies the man. "Bonjour, are you lost?"

The voice made him jump at first but then he slowly turned to face Armand, trying to play cool.
"What?," he raised a hand to his chest. "No, of course not," he used the same hand to slick back one side of his grey pointed hair.
Then he proceeded to look down at the baby in Armand's arms. Disgusting, he thought to himself.

Frowning and a bit put off by the man's expression, Armand ventures further timidly. "Were you looking for someone?"

He shook his head. "Well, yes and no," his eyes shifted.
He wasn't at all sure where he was or how he even got here. The last thing he remembered was falling asleep in his old mansion the last night and then waking up this morning to come downstairs and find out he was in a completely different place. But he, being so full of himself, didn't want to admit to this.

The man was acting terribly suspiciously. Armand hugged Etienne closer. The baby protested slightly. "This is the Mansion, monsieur. Most people who arrive here are lost. Profoundly so." Or so he's been told.

Olaf raised his eyebrow at Armand and then nodded. He began to sense discomfort from the other man and decided to let his guard down a bit. Of course, he also knew that this would be the person to help him out around here so he knew he couldn't be rude.
"Well," he smiled. "At least I'm not the only one here who is lost. However, do you happen to know how all of us, including my handsome self, got to this place?"

"No one knows. Tis magic of some kind. Much here is magical. Are you a wizard perhaps?"

Olaf scoffed. "Are you serious?," he laughed deeply. "A wizard, me?"
He shook his head. "Well, while I am great I am no wizard."
He stopped for a moment, taking in what Armand had said.
"Wait," he stopped laughing as his eyes narrowed. "You aren't," he paused ",saying I look like a wizard are you? Because, well, that wouldn't be very nice."

Armand shakes his head, drawing back a step. "No, but none of the few I have met look like wizards either. They are just people." He looks around for a wand, just in case.

"Ah. Well then, no need for panic," he straighted his vest and gently strokes his goatee.
"Now then," he looked at the child and then back to Armand ",what is your name?"

"I'm Armand St. Just, and this is my son. And you, monsieur?"

He bowed. "I am Count Olaf, owner of the mansion near the Fickle Fountain and beloved actor."

That somewhat explains Olaf's odd demeanor. Many of the actors Armand used to know were odd people. "I haven't seen your mansion, Count Olaf, but... there hmm... my sister used to be an actress, at the Comedie Francaise. Perhaps you knew her? Marguerite St. Just. She's married now, and is known in England as Lady Blakeney."

"Well," he thought for a moment. "I may have casted her once or twice. I usually keep my acting troupe to a very small number. But yes, I may have met her in the past."
He nodded to Armand, letting his guard down a bit.

Armand balances young Etienne on his hip. "That's good. I should tell her you're here. Perhaps she and Percy will have you over for dinner."

He gave him a nod. "That would be nice," he grinned. He was being, well, half honest. He was sure that a homemade meal would be nice. But then he looked back into Armands eyes, he seemed so honest. He didn't know how he was feeling this but maybe he be so bad.
