What looked to be a very pretty, slim, dark haired boy, dressed like a slavic peasant of the 1640s, stepped into the Mansion. After looking around in bewilderment a well bred voice asked in Polish. “Pan Zagloba? Where are you?” The question was attempted again in Russian, Ukrainian, Ruthenian, and even broken French. “Hello? Can anyone tell ( Read more... )

Draco frowns and he apparently knows a little French so he answers with that. "Are you lost?"

Her French is very bad and has a heavy Polish accent but it should sound vaguely like, "Yes. I am, Pan."

"Pan? That's not my name," he replies. "What country are you from?" He notices the accent and the trouble she seems to have speaking the different language. "Do you know English?"

That was a lot of words and she only caught a few. "Poland."

He raises an eyebrow. "Hmm.. ," he frowns at her again and pulls out his wand. "This won't do," he mutters to himself and says some words in a charm that should make her speak and understand English well enough at least to get by here. It may be only temporary or it may last a while. That can be up to the typist..

Helen looks at the wand and then back at him. Superstition was a very big part of life at home. "Are you good or bad?" She doesn't even realize that she spoke in (still heavily accented) English.

"That depends upon who you talk to," he smirks.

She closes her eyes and chants a charm to repel witches. Upon opening them she finds Draco still there. Helen smiles. "Good. You are good, Pan."

He raises his eyebrows again. "What did you just do?" He appears to be a little surprised by her assessment of him.

"I was making sure you were not in league with the devil," she states, matter of factly.

"I'm only in league with myself," he answers, putting his wand away again. "Now where were we... So you are from Poland? I'm assuming you're a new arrival by the confused look on your face."

"Yes. I am from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. And yes. I suppose I am new."

"And do you have magical powers?"

"I know the charms that should be said when embroidering and baking pascha (Easter bread) and when weaving cloth. I know the spells and mixtures that will help heal illness. And I know the protections against vampires and veela and dark spirits."

He looks mildly impressed. "You're a wizard then?" He asks, thinking there was something wrong there that he couldn't quite pinpoint.

Oh dear. She had been talking about womanly things. Helen still didn't know if it was safe here so she was supposed to be a boy. "No." She sounds a bit flustered. "Everyone knows such things."
