Calling All Angels

Mar 16, 2007 13:01

Spring is nearly here, and so Mary sees it fit to start putting her plan into motion.

"Are there any angels about? I would wish to speak with you."

Let's have an entirely different breed of angel, shall we? A tall, pretty one with Asian features, carefully applied make-up and miniskirt-- and one that looks the vaguest bit male.

Uriel finger-waves a little, smiling. "Hi, darling. Is there any reason you're asking for one?"

"Yes," says Mary, eyeing her carefully. "I have a garden, you see, and Spring is nearly come. The plants will begin to show above the ground and it shall be splendid. I need an angel to bless the garden, so that it will never die."

"What a delightful idea!" Uriel exclaims brightly. "And isn't it a coincidence that I just happen to be an angel? However, sweetpea, it's His way for everything to die eventually, to make way for new life. Still..." she leans in a little, solemnly, "I can make it so that as long as someone loves this garden, it will never die."

"You...do not look like an angel."

"Appearances can be deceiving, dear," she smiles. "I understand, though; you want proof, right?"

"I want an angel," Mary quips.

Uriel sighs, shaking her head a little, though she doesn't seem too upset. "I am an angel, darling. Hold on a second."

She straightens herself, smoothing out the miniskirt-- then closes her eyes, gracefully extending her arms. Where she came from, angels are one with God whenever they are in Heaven; if she relaxes enough ...and there it is, the soft glow of light from within, the faint halo of gold around her entire body, and the whisper of wings on either side of her. They are translucent and immaterial, but still very much there.

Her eyes open again, everything vanishes, and she smiles.

Mary looks on in wonderment, and for a moment she looks like a normal little girl; eyes wide and astonished, lips slightly parted.

"I believe you," she finally says, gradually receding back into her hard and self-assured nature. "And I will love the garden for ever and ever."

It's nothing to do with Pride, but Uriel does like to show off once in a while. It's more like Pride in Him, rather than Pride in herself.

She gestures slightly. "Would you take me to it?"

"I shall," says Mary, "but first I must ask of you one thing more." A look of urgency passes across her face, signifying that what she is about to request is of Great Importance--not that her garden is not important either, mind you.

"And what is that?"

"I wish for my cousin Colin to be made well; so that he might walk, and run about and play like other children."

"Oh, that poor boy," Uriel says, looking a little sympathetic. "While I could heal him, I know of somebody who could heal him even better. Why don't we take a look at your garden first and then I'll see if I can find him?"

"Very well." Mary turns and heads outside.

Uriel follows her, carefully walking in high heels.

She stops at a small area, not too large but certainly not tiny, where pale green shoots have begun to peek above the earth.

"This is my garden."
