Tom had woken from his slumber and try as he might he could not return to it.  His stomach growled at him most incessantly so he set off in search of food.  This place has to have a kitchen somewhere.  He was also casually looking for exits.  As he wandered about he compiled a mental list of things he would rather be doing.  1. Riding  2.  Eating  ( Read more... )

Alcuin has become something of a professional at feeding people, so he will simply wander by with a tray of iced gingerbread, little sandwiches, and a pot each of tea and coffee, heading for the main room.

Tom's stomach leads where his head and heart do not. Foooood.....

"I say there!" He tried to flag down the gingerbread.

Alcuin stopped and turned with a friendly smile. "Hello. Hungry?"

Tom had not eaten since he arrived at the mansion and so he shoved a whole gingerbread cake into his mouth. Ooops! He preformed an odd sort of choking, sputtering, swallow that turned into a rather akward bow. "Thomas Jones, at your service, sir." Unfortunately his mouth was still rather full of gingerbread.

"Careful! You'll make yourself sick with eating too fast." Alcuin giggled, nodding in the direction of the main room. "Come with me, let me set this tray down. I'm Alcuin no Delaunay. Pleased to meet you."

"Likewise," Tom thankfully did not attempt to pronounce the other man's last name. He had a bad habit of assuming all foreign names were French and then proceeded to butcher them horribly. They are excellant gingercakes, sir."

Then it's terribly fortunate that Alcuin's name is French. "I'm glad. I made them myself." He set down the tray on a table. "Would you care for tea or coffee?"

Then it is doubly good that Tom did not attempt to pronounce it for otherwise the other man might have taken double the offense when Tom butchered his name into some strange new word that means 'yellow pig' orsomething similar. (It is a valid concern for it has happened before.)

"You are a most excellent cook in my esteem, sir, for I am rather lacking in my knowledge of the culinary arts. Coffee please."

Alcuin smiled and poured him the requested cup, offering it with a smile. There's cream and sugar on the tray, as well, if he likes. "I can make you something more, if you're hungry. Help yourself to gingerbread and sandwiches."

"Thank you for your kindness, sir. This should be quite sufficient." Tom took a sip of the coffee glanced over at the other man. "Pardon my boldness, but would you relate to me how you came to be here? Everyone seems to have a different story.

Alcuin stilled for a moment, very quiet. "I died."

"Oh. Umm...." Tom was flustered beyond belief. "My sincerest condolences."

Well. Tom hadn't felt this akward in a long time. "Shall we attempt to talk of something more pleasant, sir?"

Alcuin blushed, nodding slightly. "Please. And it's just Alcuin, please."
