Alcuin found a book on origami in the library, and most particularly the legend of the paper cranes. So he's curled up in a chair in the main room, folding paper birds out of little squares of paper and adding them to a bowl. He's only got a small pile yet, but he's determined to fold a thousand ( Read more... )

Yuuri notices the cranes with a smile "What will you wish for?" he asks.

Alcuin looks up with a soft smile, friendly but a little sad. "Someone to keep away the loneliness."

He senses the sadness in the statement, and although he suspects that this isn't the type of loneliness he can help with, he'll keep him company for a bit. "Ah. A good wish, how many have you got to go?"

Alcuin looked over at the bowl and laughed. "Nine hundred and eighty-four.

Snitter sits himself a distance away, and watches. He doesn't approach, you can never be too careful, but--

"Why do humans like playing with paper so much, I wonder?"

Alcuin smiles gently at him. "Hello." He doesn't have any food to offer, but he will hold his hand out to be sniffed. Alcuin, for the record, is one of the most nonthreatening people in the history of the universe, and loves puppies.

That was a nice gesture, masters made it. Not whitecoats, not shepherds, not farmers, not their wives. He gets up and takes a few steps, then stops.

"No! Remember last time, remember, the world came apart last time!"

Snitter, for the record, is not a puppy, though he is small, seeing as he's a breed of terrier, and has a rather large Frankenstein's Monster-esque scar on his head. Which is related to why he's mad, and doesn't trust humans implicitly.

Alcuin frowned softly, noticing the scar. "You're hurt. Poor dog." He withdraws his hand, not wanting to frighten the dog, but is completely open if Snitter wants to come closer.

Alcuin smiles down at him, friendly. "Hello."

"hullo -- !" beaming, he holds up a crane with a short, funny neck, and pulls at the tail -- the paper wings flap a little against his palm.

"Only nine hundred and ninety-nine to go," Alcuin smiled, folding more paper cranes and adding them to the bowl.

She's not seen Alcuin in some time, so as she notices him folding paper cranes, she approaches softly.

"Hello, Alcuin. That looks like it requires a lot more patience than I have!" she says with a smile. "How are you?"

"Hello, Hermione." He smiles back, offering her a crane. "I'm well enough. And yourself?"

She studies the crane.

"I'm well, thank you for asking... What do these do, if you don't mind the question?"

"A legend I found in a book. Supposedly, if you make a thousand, you can have any one wish." He smiles, a little sheepish. "I thought it was worth the try. They're pretty, aren't they?

Considering that he used to make a lot of these back when he'd lost his eyes...

"Ah. Quite a calming pastime, isn't it?"

"Yes. It is." Alcuin smiles at him, friendly, if a bit sad. "I'm trying to make a thousand."
