Nothing good will come of the Tea Party. Except, of course, my mild entertainment and the realization that there is a decent amount of people out there that truly believe some of the nonsense these politicians pulled from nowhere. It's scary how impressionable we all are. How easily we're manipulated to believe something, as long as it's said with enough enthusiasm and repetition.
I feel as though this nation has completely lost touch with itself. Potential future politicians throw the word "communist" around so frequently and so out of context that it's become a joke. But, this joke is being believed by a decent number of people. I'd like to think that my generation is intelligent enough to realize that social reform doesn't necessarily mean you're a communist but, after some of those demonstrations, I've begun to lose faith. One speaker out right declared that basically everyone who has ever influenced Obama’s life is somehow a communist or a socialist. This nonsense was driving the crowd mad. They loved every second of it and absorbed it all. Granted, yes, this is to the extreme right of things. Not everyone to the right necessarily believes this. But, still all the more terrifying.
I went in hoping to gain some sort of perspective on opposing ideas. Wishful thinking, I suppose.
