One week in
Well, I've now survived an entire week in the new job, and so far it's looking pretty good. :-) Well, it'll look pretty good once they get my PC working properly, which, um ... not so much so far.
The people are unbelievably friendly (certainly compared with my last place!) and very happy to have me there, which is nice. The work's more demanding too, which is good. Not so demanding that I won't be able to do it, but tricky enough that they know it'll take a while to figure out. (I have never, ever seen a computer system designed like this before--definitely beginning to see why it took them 3 months to find someone they thought could do the job!)
I'm in a nearly-all-male team (an IT department in the motor industry, so there was never going to be a good gender balance), though my actual boss is in a completely different team on the other side of the building, which is kind of interesting to coordinate. Still, she's helpful and available as much as possible, so it works pretty well.
The commute is a swine, though. I may not particularly want to live in Slough, but frankly I'm going to move there first chance I get so that I don't have to do the bus-train-bus combo a minute longer than I have to.
BTW, fair warning, people: I'm gonna update my horrendous backlog of fic on here, so expect a certain degree of spammage over the next few weeks.
