I jump in the spa and pull his small form out of the bottom of the spa. No pules, not breathing. His lips are purple and his eyes are not open. We run through the sequence, abdominal thrusts, I do rescue breathing while the gear is made ready. I can not help but think "He looks kinda like my son".
With out getting into too much detail, I brought that little boy back from the dead. He will be fine, probably no long term damage.
Now I remember him every time I turn around to see where Ivan has gone off to. But when I think back I see Ivan's face, Ivan's red robot shirt, Ivan's brown eyes.
I wish I had an erase button for my memory. Some memories you can learn from, but some haunt you like a specter howling over your shoulder in a wail only you can hear.
