Nathan was already getting back into the swing of having a chain of command, which is why the knock took him by surprise; normally a receptionist would let him know there was someone coming to see him. Or it would be Peter, Claire, Rube, someone who knew they didn't have to knock ( ... )

"Nathan Petrelli-san." She replied simply at first, her smile never leaving her face. The hurriedness of his actions were not lost on her, though she seemed not to care, taking her time as she crossed the room and stood behind the chair on the other side of the desk, seeming unwilling to give him the higher ground.

"There is nothing you can do for me." Smiling still, red eyes almost glowing under the fluorescent light, pale skin seeming milky white. "What becomes of me is of my consequence alone. But the children trapped in this world, on the other hand."

Her smile turned almost acidic, like there was some great joke in the whole thing. "What do you want for this city, Petrelli-san?"

The way she spoke, it reminded him of ancient tarot readers in the movies, or the oracles they spoke to in bad sci-fi. Beautiful and aloof. Nathan had never been good at aloof; no matter how much cynicism he had, he always ended up wanting to save the world for Peter. In his own way, of course. Peter wanted one person at a time. Nathan wanted to save them all at once.

Giving up the power game - for now, at least - Nathan swung into his chair, folding his hands on the table, obscuring the paperwork he'd been making corrections to. "Long-term or short-term?" Nathan asked, a hand stroking over his stubble, the knuckles obviously bruised.

"I want us to get out of the Dome. Vilma's space travel, Mears' prank with the portal reversal, they're viable options. The scientists are looking into fixing the radiation..." he let himself trail off, the hint of a smile playing around lips that still bore faint marble tracings of scarring. "But that's not what you mean, is it."

Yuuko seemed content to play an equal field, taking her own seat after he finished talking. She crossed her legs in a small movement, eyes never leaving his as she moved. Every action seemed to be planned with deliberate grace, every smile almost bored, as if she had already played out the scene a million times before.

"That's what you want them to have, which is a fine answer." She replied, tilting her head to the side as she spoke. "But there is a difference between that and what you wish for them. They're similiar at first, but they are a bit different, upon further inspection."

She paused for a moment, delicately placing her hands on her lap. "Do you wish for the children in this world to have stability, or do you wish for them to have happiness?"
