elementary school
Bento shop closed. Mother used to do all the work, doesn't make any appearance. Father has become an alcoholic and refuses to work. Seki briefly considers beating him with a baseball bat. Seki also takes up smoking. Still has a few friends, but not exactly sociable. Can be kind of gruff.
middle school
Starting to skimp on his schoolwork. Has drifted away from all of his friends except Shimizu. Is known around school as "the loner kid." Apparently gets into quite a lot of fights, may or may not be for Shimizu's sake. Decides not to go to high school.
skipping high school
Avoiding school. Family's financial situation is dire; about to be evicted, father has vanished. Half-heartedly searches for a way to procure some money. Still gets into fights, judging by the scrapes on his face. Extremely blank and apathetic, only ever hangs out with Shimizu. (Brought into Mayfield at this point.)
age twenty
Has found a job driving a recycling pick-up truck, performs it half-heartedly, presumably just for the cash. Doesn't want to associate with any of his old schoolmates. Only associates with Shimizu, but can be a bit blunt and cruel at points.
