Need Will Be Rarer
Guess what's started up with their exhibition games and have the actual season starting up come the end of March? I'll give you a hint - it's the only sport I love more than hockey and when I had to stop playing it because my school no longer had a team I was devastated and my mother was secretly delighted because it meant I had less places to get myself killed... give up yet?
Soccer!!! I know it's more of a joke than anything in the United States, but I don't really care because I happen to love it and that is all that really matters. Starting with my favorite team for the past four years - the Colorado Rapids! Their first real season game is against my other favorite team, the L.A. Galaxy, who have slightly better jerseys this year, but I still want a Rapids one. Unfortunately, while looking through the Rapids roster to see who has been brought up from the Reserves team (who, I may add, won the MLS Reserve Championship) I came across several disturbing things.
Disturbing thing #1: Christian Gomez, a.k.a. whiny bitch who happens to have a good eye for scoring goals. He was the sole reason why I could never bring myself to cheer for DC United, because I really dislike him as a player. Not to be confused with Herculez Gomez, one of my favorite players behind Nicolas Hernandez, who rocks the world. But seriously, Christian on the Rapids? I just don't know what to do with myself... maybe he'll stop being such a bitch since he's on a different team. That is my only hope.
Disturbing Thing #2: Lack of Beckerman (not to be confused with Beckham). When did we trade this genius of a man away and why? Heart-wrenching I tell you.
But it does look like they've pulled up some good players up from the Reserve team - like Keel, who is a very solid defender despite his massive hair. Harvey (another solid defender), DiRaimondo (a Midfielder), Cummings (who played a few games for the Rapids, but mostly logged time in the Reserves and is a Forward) and LaBrocca (Midfielder). There are a few who have been traded in (mainly from DC United, it appears) and away, but minus Beckerman my favorites are still here. H. Gomez, Hernandez, Kirovski and our keeper Coundoul. Mmmm, should be a good season! Even if C. Gomez stays a whiny little bitch, he's a good goal scorer and the Rapids could use another one of those with Beckerman gone. I need to find out if he went somewhere else or if he just retired from soccer altogether despite not being very old at all... I doubt he's with the Galaxy and I hope he hasn't gone to Real Salt Lake or FC Dallas... New York Red Bulls would be okay, though. Oh wait - he's with Real Salt lake. *dies a little inside*
In hockey news - the New Jersey Devils now own not only the top of the Atlantic division, but the entire Eastern Conference! It's nice to know that the team I fell in love with during winter break after seeing a couple of games thanks to Aunt Jill's insane television options is pulling together and making a real run for it ^-^
Matt Siddall, one of NMU's seniors, was Offensive Player of the Week in the CCHA thanks to his three goals and three assists on the weekend. We won both of our games against University of Nebraska-Omaha. Tonight Playground is supposed to go bowling, and we'll see how many girls will actually be willing to go. Cyndi stopped by earlier, and it was great to chat with her for awhile before she had to go. Saw Ryan too, and that was neat. Tried to convince them to hit up bowling with us tonight, but I think that Ryan's a no-go since there is a Sabres game on and they're likely to win it. But still, maybe Emmi and Mandy will decide to come along, or/and Nicki, Adrienne, etc. etc.
