Trembling On The Cold Air

Feb 09, 2008 00:52

So I was planning on going to bed right when I got back from Houghton... but then I checked CCHA to see how the 'Cats did - and they beat Michigan State, 3-1!!! Even better? Sirota got himself a hat trick! That is quite possibly the best news to top off a very nice evening.

This morning involved me getting an email from Aaron saying that the University had gotten off their lazy asses to actually give me my paycheck. Very good news. Then I went and took my EC101 test over at Cohodas, and it was pretty much the easiest test that I've ever had to take. Professor Terraini seems very nice, and I am glad that I'm one of the few students who got to meet her face to face instead of just through our online discussion board. Upon arriving back at my room I discovered my ID card missing. Thus followed a frantic search of everything five times, then work, then a search again, then Lee coming over to help with the search. I finally found it - underneath of a blue Winterfest piece of paper that both of us had lifted up already and turned over. As in it hadn't been there, and then it was. Like the same way my black pen will get switched up with my red when I go to the bathroom or something. Strange stuff.

It was then time to make our journey to the University Center to meet up with Jeff for the hook-up with Shannon, Ash and Taylor for the haul to Houghton for Michigan Tech's Winter Carnival. Yes, I mean the same Michigan Tech that is Northern Michigan's biggest rival. With that being stated, along with the fact that I love going to NMU and am very glad that I made that decision, Tech's campus kicks ours right across the street and down into the lake, as does their version of Winterfest. Their campus is also much nicer - they have not gone around tearing down their old buildings, they leave them up, and it adds a very nice feel to the whole thing. And their dorms are huge, plus their UC has a bowling alley and an arcade and ballroom... yes, I am jealous. I don't want to go there, but I wish that Northern's campus was as awesome as that. And that our Winterfest kicked half as much ass as theirs does. I don't think that words can quite describe the awesome that were the ice sculptures that were everywhere, nor their broomball tournament, so I have about 18 pictures to do the talking for me underneath of

This was one of Lee's favorites - a nice mix of monsters, including Reptar (yes, from Rugrats) popping out of the building near the corner there.

One of the King Kong sculptures, I do believe a residence hall did this for third place or something like that.

Jeff, Lee and the corner of Shannon's coat. A little blurry, yes, but this is still them standing near the large crocodile.

Speaking of the crocodile... I loved the eyes.

Wizard of Oz!!

King Kong celebrating after killing one of the dinosaurs off.

Lee, Jorie and Ash admiring one of the sculptures. Note Jorie's camera - way superior to my crappy little '04 digital that needs to be taped to work.

In my opinion, the best Ghostbusters sculpture of the bunch.

Biggest - and best - sculpture throughout all of Houghton.

I mean... look at the detail in that chain and those letters!

It's eyes were blocks of clear ice, as were the teeth. Must've taken forever. Of course, it was a frat one.

Main purpose here was to show off the fingernails.

Ursula!

Their broomball arenas - they are one hundred times superior to ours. They even had a team that was dressed in various retro video game character costumes.

Frankenstein's laboratory.

This whole thing amazed me.

Most especially this bookcase right here.

And, of course, the awesome that is the stairwell in the back. Done by a sorority.

Not all of my pictures turned out that great, because my camera needs replacement. Basically, I liked this trip, and I think that it would be a good thing to do again next year. Maybe during the day, though, when pictures would turn out better and we could stay for a little longer, take more time to stare at everything that is there. The ride back was interesting... I spent much of it playing Lee's DS to distract myself from the road.

freakin' sweet, enemy land, sports: hockey, going on an adventure bbl, friends, season: winter, snow, place: nmu
