The View From Katie's Window: Complete vortex of swirling snowflakes, complete with students in various colored coats hunched over to avoid the wind, backpacks looking more like turtle shells than anything else. One person, presumably a guy in a blue and gray ski jacket with one of those black side bags, just slipped and fell on his ass due to the policy of Marquette that involves no ice being used anywhere in the city so that we do not contaminate Lake Superior's fragile system.
Come on, that has got to be a foot of snow out there, if not more. The reports said we'd get 1-2" yesterday, and that's a load of bull. We got 1-2" in about two hours yesterday! If there has been a period of time in the past three days where it has stopped snowing for more than two consecutive hours, then I'd be shocked. Go to sleep - it's snowing. Wake up - it's snowing. Look out the window - what a surprise! It's snowing!
It's like we just got trapped into this giant snowglobe and keep getting shaken up all over again - that's what it looks like, I mean. Except for the part where we get to keep all of the snow that already feel everywhere. No snowday of course; we're in the U.P., what's a snowday if it doesn't come in April because of a freak blizzard? At least none of my friends have killed themselves on the patches of ice lurking beneath the snow yet. Emmi just bit it in the parking lot, and that was more amusing than painful.
I love it. This is seriously one of the reasons I came to university up here, for the piles of snow that we're getting. It'll be depressing to go downstate and find freezing rain, snow, snow, rain, freezing rain, repeat.
E.T.A. - Despite the cold outside, I woke up this morning covered in a sheen of sweat with every last one of my blankets in my mushroom chair. Why? Because it's a freakin' SAUNA in here every single night! And opening the window? yeah, lasts for about ten minutes after I climb into bed.
