I spent a crazy amount of money on upgrade parts for my PC today. Estimating it to be about 4 times more powerful than my current system, so should be fun to play with. I amused that I still need to use a floppy disk drive in my system...

I'm also amused that it's 1 am and I'm supposed to go to work tomorrow...

Why would you *need* a floppy? Modern SATA chipsets can report themselves as IDE for the purposes of Windows installation. Haven't put a floppy drive in a new system recently and don't plan to.

Well for starters the drive size was being reported wrong during windows install (was fine in bios (phoar, firefox 2 has spell checker (which says that "firefox" is misspelled ROFL (These brackets may give you an indication of how erratic I'm thinking from not getting enough sleep last night)))). Now, where was I.. oh yeah I also use RAID which doesn't seem to work without the floppies. Using the floppies isn't all that painful once you know what you're doing. I should go find one of the old 5 1/4 inch floppy drive face plates and stick it in a spare slot in the front of my case for the "what the..." factor. Then again, maybe I should get some sleep ( ... )

ah RAID.... I don't have the money to waste on the extra hard drives to do RAID so that's never been a problem for me.

Wow 9 SATA connectors LOL. And here I was thinking I was spiffing with 2 (and 2 PATA), and Brendan with 4 (and a PATA).

You looking to sell off your old stuff? We're currently looking at upgrades because the media PC is having a difficult time capturing at the moment (we think it's just too underpowered with its nForce (original) motherboard).

Yeah, might have some stuff to sell. I think dad's claim first dibs on the stuff though, but then his current stuff is only marginally less than mine anyway.

Current parts I'm taking out are:
- AMD64 3000+, socket 754
- 2 x 512MB DDR400 Generic, different chips.
- Asus K8N mobo, socket 754, 3 dimm slots, 6xSATA, 2xPATA, AGP 8x, 5(?) PCI slots, 8 USB, 2x1394
- Gecube(?) ATI 9800Pro 128MB

Dad's system is:
AMD64 2800+, 754
2(?) x 512MB DDR400
MSI socket 754 board, cant remember which one
Geforce 5700LE

So should be something reasonable left over from that.
