cub, Case, and Riot Grrl. All from the Comforts of My Couch

cub is quite the blast from the past, like the cold weather coming at us from Canadia.  At least to those of us who saw them open for They Might Be Giants in November of 1996 (my first concert experience, btw).

They didn't play this song, but They did.

Enjoy, and Happy New Year!

And speaking of Awesome ladybands of the 90's, check out this little ditty from a young Neko Case's early band Maow.  She played drums for early cub before leaving to start this band:

And while i'm at it, something else related to the really wonderful cuddlecore/punk thing that was happening in the Great Northwest was, of course, the Riot Grrl scene.  One of their early, and probably lesser known Oly bands was Corin Tucker's Heaven's to Betsy.

Just to bring things up to date and finally (after several revisions) close out this entry, below is a video from the newish Seattle group Team Gina - the wonderful and wonderfully danceable feminist Casio punk/hip-hop group (imagine Bikini Kill, or perhaps more correctly Le Tigre, and Sir Mix-a-Lot.  Together.  Somehow).
