A Dearth of Cinema

I was looking over the nominees for the upcoming Golden Globes this morning (and in many cases, the inevitable Oscar nominees as well), and realized that I haven't seen a single one. Of course, I haven't been out to see a movie since August. And that was Brideshead Revisted, all by myself at some theatre north of Akron, because it sure as hell wasn't playing anywhere near here.

Of the 9 nominated films that I would like to see, or would like to have seen when they were in theatres, only two are playing anywhere near here. That's...really disappointing. And I can't afford Netflix right now, so I don't know when I'll see them.

The Reader - Isn't playing anywhere near here. And won't be.
Revolutionary Road - Isn't out yet, but I don't see any message at the local theatres that it will be playing.
Rachel Getting Married - Wasn't anywhere near here when it was in theatres.
I've Loved You So Long - Ditto.
Milk - Never carried in this area. I'd have to drive to Cleveland.
Frost/Nixon - Same.
The Duchess - Wasn't carried here.

I can see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Doubt at the local Cinemark theatre, but that's kind of cold comfort. I'll have to go alone. Also, I miss AMC's 5 dollar weekend prices. Boo.
