Mr. Smith was happy to see me in his Drawing class. I was less pleased to see that we had to use drawing benches. I mean, I should have expected it, but I didn't. The class filled up quickly. It's a small (dirty) room and there weren't enough benches to go around. The entire term is going to be spent doing still-life drawing. With charcoal. I don't mind the former, but ugh, the latter. I hate getting messy.
I have a short list of supplies to pick up at Prince's or wherever, and that's kind of exciting. I love getting new stuff. I need a sketch book (9x12), some charcoal pencils, a kneadable eraser, a pencil sharpener, and if I want, some compressed charcoal, soft charcoal and/or some kind of charcoal crayons. He gave us supplies for today, and we got right to work on the exciting layout of vases on boxes draped in fabric. I tried to use a charcoal pencil, but found that I pressed down way too hard. So I switched to the light charcoal sticks, which were far messier, but required that I use less pressure, which was a good thing. I'm vaguely happy with my work so far. But there are some really good artists in the class, so we'll see how it goes.
This is my big break for the day. One hour between drawing and English. Then I get like, 15 minutes after that. Then I have all of five minutes to run from History to Algebra. Exciting times.
