Our equine maternity ward . . . the waiting. It slays me.

Sooo, we went through a lot of these posts last year when we were waiting for Sawyer to make his grand entrance into the world, but Sweet Tart's not a maiden mare this time, so I'm hoping we're reading her signs right. She made absolutely none last time, no udder, no 'dialating' as you'd call it for humans, nothing. He was just there one morning.

Today however, her udder has doubled in size since yesterday alone, her girl part* has probably tripled in length, and she's generally not herself at all. We decided earlier today to keep Sawyer in his round pen until she delivers because he can be clingy and bully-ish towards her. Also we have no idea how he's going to react to the baby. 16 months old or not, I think he's still a mama's boy at heart. Anywho, got the little scoundrel corralled and gave him and Sweet Tart some hay to munch on. Being the glutton that she is, it surprised us when all of a sudden she jumped and ran away from her hay and left it abandoned for a while. Seriously, that's like the equivalent vampire not wanting blood, LOL. She stood by Sawyer's round pen and kind of stamped and looked at her belly a few times for about 30 minutes before she finally finished the hay. She's been lurking in dark wooded corners of the pasture too, all by herself. So I'm kind of expecting to see a gangly new family member when I go out tomorrow morning ^_^ I set my alarm for 6:30, hehe. Gotta sneak out before anyone else, you know. Mom's gotten the first glimpse at the last two foals (Sweet Tart and Sawyer) and I'm determined to 'discover' this one, lol. Well, that's about it for now. I'll leave you with some picspam from this afternoon. Look at this poor girl!

Sorry about the disembodied hands in that picture. I recently discovered Dad has a huge issue with me posting his picture on Facebook, where only people he pretty much already knows will see them, lol. So I cropped him out of these. Not trying to disown him or be mean, I promise ;-)

* I use the term 'girl part' when I normally hate cutesy crap like that, but I wasn't sure if anyone would be uncomfortable with having those actual clinical terms show up on their f-list without a cut.
