Saturday was a great day for me. I managed to get a very little bit of riding in, and a lot of sword fighting. I'm thinking of going down on Tuesdays while
johnofnotrades goes to his class. Just to get more experience.
Saturday evening as
johnofnotrades said, I invited him down to the yard to go out to a pub with my fighting and riding friends. We did have a good time and they were sad to see us high tail it back to the city before they left. They wanted us to stay but I really wanted my own bed that night.
Turns out that I did the right thing, first by going on Saturday and coming home that evening. A schoolmate of mine, A was involved in a fire that started sometime around 3:30 am on Saturday night. C called us at 10 am once A was allowed to use the phone instead of sucking on oxygen. We got ready and grabbed clothes and shoes and money and then went there only to get stuck in a second drama. We were told she was in intensive care and as it turns out, she wasn't. But we still had to talk to the police and they wanted information etc... plus they asked one of us to go into the intensive care unit just in case we knew the unknown girl and could identify her. I volunteered. After spending many months visiting my brother in ICU in Canada, I was getting to be pretty immune to the stuff that's in there. And compared to what my brother looked like, she was gorgeous. No burns, just severe smoke inhalation to the point of going into arrest 4 times during the morning. They weren't expecting her to live so they were desperate to find out who she was.
This is when the left and right hand don't know what they're doing. The officer upstairs whom I had been talking to, wanted me to stay and talk to the CID. I mentioned that I don't know her and that my friends, the ones that lived there were talking to police downstairs in A and E. He said that's alright, he'd still like us to talk to CID. Grrrrr. So I ended up waiting an hour for the CID to come. In the meantime,
johnofnotrades went downstairs, found A and was on their way up. C and G had just shown up and were keeping me company. We all sat around for another 20 min waiting for CID and then it turns out my friends had already talked to them!
We left, went back to our flat where A is staying at the moment, allowed her to get clean and smell less like smoke and then went to do some shopping. You could tell we were all stressed- by the time we sat down to eat something, none of us were talking. We were all exhausted.
It turned into a very short evening for us as we all went to bed early.
I think I'm still taking it all in.... I'm sure I'll have some thoughts on the whole thing soon.
