Did you guys catch Obama on Jay Leno the other night?

He wasn't pushing the "You're either with us or against us." Bullshit.

Did you guys forget what the word "Liberal" means? Most of the whacktards you are against, aren't Liberals and (Liberal != Anarchist; Liberal != Socialist either).

The US Constitution is a "Liberal" document (Considered the most liberal document of its day).

I agree, it's classically liberal. I'm by definition a classic liberal, however the term has been corrupted so that the word liberal invokes the image of barking moon bats, so the definition of liberal has been shifted to free luncher and the term libertarian has taken its place. It is unfortunate, but those who claim to be liberal have a war against our constitution going on a regular basis. Of the three branches of the government that have failed us, I actually blame the judicial branch the most - not the executive or legislative branch. You expect the executive and legislative branch to make bone headed decisions on occasion, the judicial branch is the one that's supposed to say No! They did this on more than one occasion with FDR - that's why the Blue Eagle I'm so fond of talking about disappeared. However the threat of court packing neutered that branch. Now, since the judicial branch is afraid to act our federal government has expanded its powers into places it doesn't belong, almost all of it being justified by ( ... )

It might help if everyone uncorrupts the word. Remind those who consider themselves Liberal just what that word means. Accuse them of not being liberal and that the word "socialist" is NOT a part of Liberty.

They really get their knickers in a knot if you *DARE* call them Socialists. No matter how true it is.

There's "Liberal" in the rest of the world and those who call themselves Liberals in the U.S. The two are not the same.

Do they really call themselves that or is that the label applied by the Religious Right?

In either case, it isn't English, American or any other flavor. A Liberal is one who stands for individual Liberty, which is antithetical to the wishes of the Religious Right. The US Constitution was designed to promote individual Liberty, why it's a livberal document. Those who defend it are liberals. Thos who castigate liberals are either totalitarian right or socialist left.

They call themselves that.

The problem was that in the 60s Liberals and (non-Bush2*) Conservatives literally swapped ideologies. That's why Ronald Reagan switched parties, he adhered to a Liberal philosophy, but the party that espoused that in his youth ceased to do so.

*Bush2 is what would have been labeled a "Reagan Democrat" in the 80s.
