Yuletide FTW!

First things first: my Yuletide writer, [eta: Idhren] is freakin' talented. Ze wrote me a Beowulf poem that could almost be a missing fragment of a translation of the original. I don't even know where to start in praising it (my word-hoard is verklempt!), so here's a sample that speaks for itself:

In time Hrethel gave this gem-woman to mighty Ecgtheow
as reward for his loyalty, sealing the bond between them.
The treasure-giver honored his thane with his only daughter.
She became mistress of her own household,
a balm in bed to the battle-scarred warrior
and a comfort to his people.

It tells the story of the mothers of Beowulf and Grendel, and it is both a beautiful and fascinating meditation. Honestly, I can't stop rereading it, and I think it needs to be published outside of fandom, it's so amazing. Please go read the whole thing: Mother-Tongue. And make sure to leave feedback. :)

OMG.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas if applicable and that we're all enjoying the weekend. I went out for Thai with my sister and then saw Red over at the cheap movie theater on Belmont. It was well worth the wait. Quick and sweet and funny and funnily violent, and I can't wait to dig up Moses/Sarah fic somewhere now, because they were very cute and I want some more adventures with them, especially ones where Sarah has a little more to do.

The other day we had a movie night and rewatched The Emperor's New Groove, and holy heck. I had forgotten what a fun film that is. We followed it with the second Zorro movie starring Banderas and Zeta-Jones, and holy heck. I had forgotten how hot she is. :D The story was pretty ridiculous, and the stuntwork was amazingly transparent, but the actors had a ton of chemistry and it was nice to watch a Zorro flick that wasn't too heavy on the drama. The first one is kind of a downer in some ways.

Status of the Meta: YT took a while longer to complete than anticipated (the differences between drafts, oh my!), and I needed a break, so I'm working on the second half of the meta tomorrow after work. Tonight I think I'll hunt for icon images and watch 30 Rock. Word of warning: The Hulu premium package takes away commercials and provides all back seasons of most of the shows and is only about 8 bucks a month. Approach with extreme caution if you have anything on your to-do list.
