from George....
Having early experience in Catholic Church, I can really relate to what you say about the powerful imagery. There is also a humility that has to be present when one goes to a mass. You find the Holy Spirit from a place of humility and silence.

I like the Protestant gatherings, because they are so fired up and loud, and energetic... but in my heart, I feel like they could use to understand what a mass is about. They think that the Holy Spirit is dead in that context of silence and reserve.... at least one person said that to me. It is such a misunderstanding and it deeply saddens me.

For me, I really like to have both in my life. That is why I go to Without Walls, a non denominational Church, but I still go to Sacred Heart, a Catholic Church.

I am Catholic, but in the sense that I believe there is one universal Church under Christ... and I don't believe that is the Roman Catholic Church, I believe it is the amalgamation of all the people who Christ has touched.

Just going to the Cathedral on Christmas morning, with all of the candles, the stained glass, the stations of the cross around me, and the frankinscence burning...whew! I wish that Protestants could be open to that. The perfect gathering for me could somehow balance those two aspects of worship... the loud and the silent...true "chasbalm".

Wow.

I wonder what chasbalm means.

But I grok this, I really do...about wanting to marry Protestanty fun and churchy devotion. I feel like that sometimes...there are a lot of things I miss about being Protestant/nondenomenational...but I've grown a lot as a person within Orthodoxy.

you rock Jorge!!! :-)
