SUP GUYS IT'S ARQ ONE OF YOUR MODLY MOD MODS
So
caterwaiter and I just watched as much of
The Colony as has happened thus far... and it makes me feel like it's about time we got some things rollin' up in here now that all of us here right now have gotten a little more settled. So there are some things I'd like to bring up, suggest how I think they should be dealt with, and leave it to you all to come give your thoughts if you disagree.
Falling into complacency
This RPG is not a full-out apocalyptic survival-type RPG. Our characters do have it pretty good -- resources like food and shelter are not scarce and they aren't threatened by much other than each other, as there aren't animals or... demons or any other crazy shenanigans going on. However, neither are our characters spoon-fed their survival. I wanted to mention this because, like, watching this show reminded me that... there are a lot of things we can throw at our characters here day-to-day that I don't think we really consider. We have something here that is different than many other RPGs and we can take advantage of it.
Timeline
I don't want to develop some kind of rule about such and such real days = such and such game days or anything like that, but I'd like to propose a post that keeps track of major events. Just like, what order threads happen in, any major events within them, and a vague idea of how much time has passed. I think this would make it less complicated for ourselves -- or other characters -- to go backwards and just... generally keep track of everything that's happening. As the setting of this game is like... mildly survival-y, I do think that it's worth paying attention to that much at least, and since things move slowly, I think we will be able to keep up with it -- I personally can go back and read through things and work out what's happened thus far.
On that note, I think if we can agree that there should be respect for a central timeline, that we all then have to make effort to respect that timeline. Now, I understand that it is just a basic part of how things work at most RPGs at LJ that multiple people tag into posts in separate threads. I'm not going to propose that that ceases altogether here, however, I think events, including conversations between characters, should not be allowed to contradict each other -- or at the least, not set ourselves up for that to happen all the time. Meaning, if you are going to have several people in separate threads under a post, I think it should be established that one conversation takes place before or after the other. And remember that you can use *open and *closed in combination with OOC notes to specify how you prefer people to reply -- if you don't want any threads to be interrupted by a third participant, just say so, and if you don't want multiple threads under a post, say that too. We don't have that many people here, remember, so if you want to thread with multiple people you can also make a new post with a new scenario -- this would also make things move quicker.
New peepz
So, there are restrictions on what kind of characters can come in here. They're pretty confusing. I definitely want to keep the idea of humans who are from a world like ours (mostly this is because I want the focus to be more on the scenario the game presents than to have characters occupied too much with the ideas of crazy alternate timelines and worlds and species), however, I am... definitely open to suggestions on the subject of characters from the future and how they should be handled, since I do think that characters from different *times* is more than fair.
Also I'm gonna get out there and advertise more, see if we can't get a bit of new blood up in here.
THAT IS ALL.
