So, for those of you who don't know, and I'm pretty sure everyone does, I've been hired for the summer by the Nantucket Police Department as a Summer Special Officer. With the exception of a firearm, I have full Police authority for the summer on the island. Hells yeah. hahaha
Arrived here on the island this past Sunday, got set up in the apartment I have with another Summer Officer. The apartment we have is leased by a Sergeant, but he's in the middle of moving out, and needs to hold the lease till the end of the summer. So, we got lucky and got the apartment. It's a little more expensive than the Barracks everyone else lives in, but it is infinitely superior. The barracks is a run down old Coast Guard barracks. Literally a cinder block cell. Think of a college dorm. Two guys to a room, common bathrooms, common kitchen, etc. It's just the two of us here, pretty sweet. There's only one bedroom we can use, cuz the Sgt. still has stuff in the other room. My roommate snores. I've been sleeping on our couch rather than the bunk beds, but it's cool. The couch is still more comfy than the bed.
The last couple of three days we've been having to get to the training center here for 8am. We line up at attention in formation, go through an inspection and then spend the day in class learning Bylaws or whatever. Today was CPR. The haven't chewed us out too bad, we've all been pretty squared away, but damn are they nit picky about uniforms. I've been criticized about little threads on my uniform, about not starching my uniform, and for little hairs around my collar that I can't even see. I'm pretty sure they don't really exist and they're just picking something to gig on me for. Whatever. Went over my uniform for 45 minutes last night to make sure there wasn't a single issue with it.
Then, with the exception of today, after 8 hours of training we've been going with two other officers and doing an hour to an hour and half of PT afterwords. It's called Cross Fit training. Specially designed for Police and military. Long story short, it BLOWS. haha. It's kinda fun to do in a group, but they are incredibly hard workouts. Good thing is I'll be in great condition by the end of the summer. This morning we did PT before classroom. Had to be across town for 6am. Meaning I've been up since 4:15am.
That pretty much sums it up. Just wanted to let everyone know how things were going. Lata!
